Retinal  Detachment

 

 

 

The retina is a very thin, light sensitive tissue that lines the inside of the eye. If the retina is torn or detaches from the inner surface of the eye it can cause very rapid and drastic loss of vision. Retinal detachments may be caused by blows to the head, tumors, aging or extreme nearsightedness.

 

 

Common symptoms of retinal detachment include:

-Flashes of light

-Increased number of floaters

-A dark shadow or curtain covering part of the vision

-Dimming or blurring of vision

 

 

These symptoms are not always indicative of a retinal detachment, however, if you are experiencing these symptoms you should call our office immediately.
