Floaters
Floaters are small dark spots that seem to float through your visual field. Floaters tend to come and go and are especially obvious in settings where there is bright light and/or a light colored background. As floaters move across your visual field, it seems as though you can never catch up to them as you try to look directly at them. Floaters are typically part of the natural aging process and are more common in people who have had eye surgery or serious inflammatory conditions of the eye.
Although floaters are typically benign, increasing numbers of floaters in your vision can be indicative of a more serious visual problem including retinal detachment. If you notice increased numbers of floaters, be sure to call our office immediately to have your eyes examined.
